The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum has an opening for a full-time exempt Museum Preparator in the Museum Services Department.

The museum collects artifacts that illustrate the evolving history and traditions of country music while providing diverse learning opportunities. The core exhibit follows the story of country music from its folk beginnings through its emergence as a commercial art form. Rotating exhibits examine a broad range of topics, from country classics to ultra-contemporary and emerging artists in American Currents. The museum owns Hatch Show Print, a letterpress print shop opened in 1879, and it operates Historic RCA Studio B, where Elvis Presley and many others recorded.
Departmental Overview: The Museum Services Department is responsible for the museums collections, exhibitions, and editorial content.
Job Overview: The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum has an opening for a full-time exempt Museum Preparator to lead preparation, mounting, installation, and transportation of collections objects displayed in museum exhibitions, in compliance with American Association of Museums (AAM) collection standards and ethics. The position includes responsibility for gallery and exhibition monitoring and maintenance, and oversight of exhibition supplies and tools.
This position carries responsibility for irreplaceable objects and archival materials, and requires careful attention to detail, strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills, plus the abilities to manage multiple projects concurrently, and to work collaboratively and diplomatically. Excellent time management skills are essential.
Specific Job Duties:
Prepare objects from the museum collection and from outside lenders for display in exhibitions. Work with exhibitions and collections staff to determine appropriate mounting techniques and select or create mounts for 2-D and 3-D objects such as costumes, musical instruments, manuscripts, etc.
Ensure safe handling and transport of all artifacts and exhibition materials through careful unpacking and packing with appropriate materials to prevent damage during transit and storage.
Work with exhibitions staff to prepare and maintain gallery spaces.
Install and de-install objects on display in exhibitions.
Inspect galleries daily for cleanliness and for proper functioning of A/V equipment and computer interactives. Coordinate with other museum departments to maintain gallery spaces, including reporting issues to proper departments for resolution and dusting/cleaning of exhibit cases.
Maintain and supervise Exhibition Services Design Gallery, including oversight of tools and equipment and exhibit supplies and furniture.
Assist the Technology Department with maintenance of computer interactive and audio visual equipment in the galleries and coordinate with Tech Department and/or outside vendors to quickly resolve any issues.
Assist collections staff with documentation and description of artifacts through photography and written condition reports.
General collections care, such as monitoring of environmental conditions and practicing preventative conservation in collections storage areas.
